Awareness in Darebin
| 12 July 2010
Darebin City Councillors have announced increased access to services helping GLBT residents.
Council-run festivals and events will promote local support organisations and participation in the 2011 International Day against Homophobia was announced.
This year, the council funded an incentive making local childcare centres more sensitive towards children of same-sex parents.
Greens councillor Trent McCarthy said Darebin’s lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex community was growing, especially in the northern parts of the municipality.
McCarthy wants to establish further programs promoting community inclusion for same-sex attracted youth. McCarthy even suggests a relationships declaration register, similar to one offered by Melbourne City Council.
